Mage builds inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalonrely on the Spirituality skill tree and the skills therein for the most part. However, considering the complexity and the sheer number of options available to players in the game, there are a lot of really good skills for mages that are not present in the Spirituality tree.

Knowing which skills are worth taking is crucial information to have, especially considering how rareOrigin Potions are inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalonif players do decide to respec.

imbibed by the elements skill in tainted grail the fall of avalon

9Imbibed by the Elements

Imbibed by the Elements allows elemental mages, i.e., the ones who use fire, lightning, and frost spells, to become even more powerful. By default, the only way to apply status afflictions through spells is by using spells that explicitly state that they will apply status effects.

With Imbibed by the Elements online, however, this extends to all elemental spells. Fire spells now create burn buildup, ice spells create frost buildup, and lightning spells create the corresponding buildup as well.

elemental infusion skill in tainted grail the fall of avalon

8Elemental Infusion

Elemental Infusion builds on top of Imbibed by the Elements, allowing players to turn simple damage over time elemental status effects like burn into debuffs that can boost other sources of damage.

A burning enemy is more susceptible to being damaged by fireballs, allowing mono elemental mage builds to work. Elemental Infusion is a mid-game skill, however, and should only be taken after the preliminary setup is in place.

exploitation of afflictions skill in tainted grail the fall of avalon

7Exploitation of Afflictions

Exploitation of Afflictions is a key skill for one of the most powerful ways to build a mage. The idea is that if the player is able to apply a status effect to an enemy consistently, their subsequent damage output from any source is boosted by 30%. The operating word here is consistently, as if the player isn’t able to guarantee that they can very easily apply a status effect, this node is worthless.

Enter Blood Transfusion, one of the very first spells players obtain in the Island Asylum. It costs very little to cast, and its Light Cast has the ability to almost instantly apply the Bleed status effect on an enemy.

rising scourge skill in tainted grail the fall of avalon

6Rising Scourge

Rising Scourge builds on top of Exploitation of Afflictions, making it so that the secondary status effects players apply on their enemies are twice as fast to apply. This means if it took two Scorching Blazes to apply the burn status, it only takes one at Level 2 of Rising Scourge.

The prerequisite, of course, being that the player can apply another status effect beforehand consistently. With Blood Transfusion, that shouldn’t be an issue.

reactive surge skill in tainted grail the fall of avalon

5Reactive Surge

Reactive Surge is one of the only skills a mage gets that gives them a skill that’s not just a percentage increase in damage potency inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. Unfortunately, this is a late game skill, which means players should only really consider it once they get their mage build online.

Once active, Reactive Surge makes it so that any attack a character receives is reciprocated tenfold. Considering how large a mana pool can get with the right equipment and the proper skill investment, the explosion from this skill can wipe out an entire room in an instant. It’s not something to be taken lightly.

mana battery skill in tainted grail the fall of avalon

4Mana Battery

Mana forms the basis for everything a mage character does, and as players obtain better and morepowerful spells inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, they will need the extra mana to cast them efficiently.

Do note, however, that while Mana Battery is essential, investing the first five levels into maxing out this skill would be a mistake. This is because the early spells do not require a lot of mana to cast, and making them more potent instead of getting more mana would be more beneficial.

invigorating energy skill in tainted grail the fall of avalon

3Invigorating Energy

Specialization is heavily rewarded inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, which means characters who want to play as mages will want to invest as many points into Spirituality as possible. As a result, however, mage characters often run into the problem of having a very low health pool, which, combined with their typically low defenses, runs the risk of being insta-killed by any random mob they see.

Invigorating Energy solves that problem by converting a portion of the mage’s mana into health. This way, mages can freely focus on expanding their mana pool without worrying about health and related skills.

power in swiftness skill in tainted grail the fall of avalon

2Power in Swiftness

The movement speed multiplier is dictated by the weight of the equipment a character is wearing and their endurance. If the equipment weight is at “light,” players get a 20% movement speed multiplier alongside other bonuses. If it is at “medium,” then the movement speed multiplier will be 0, and if it is at heavy, the multiplier will be -10%. Additionally, some rings and special gear further boost movement speed multipliers, making this skill node even more worth it.

Since mages typically like to wear light equipment already, Power in Swiftness is a game-changer that gives them a benefit for something they were doing already. In later stages, however, some mage equipment is heavy, and players will need to invest in ways to lower equipment weight in order to wear it while still keeping Power in Swiftness active.

arcane teachings skill in tainted grail the fall of avalon

1Arcane Teachings

Spell Power forms the foundation of everything a mage strives to be in this game, and Arcane Teachings directly buffs this core aspect of a mage’s combat power by a whopping 50%. This skill forms the foundation upon which everything else rests and should be one of thevery first skills a mage character inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalonpicks up.

The only exceptions to this rule are characters who are dabbling in the mage skill tree to get extra mana or summons to complement their main damage source.
