Considering how generously rare and powerful items are distributed in the open world ofTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, many players will find themselves hesitant to purchase anything from a merchant in the game, hoping instead to find something better for free while out exploring.
While this mentality will definitely save some gold in the long run, it can make the gameplay experience quite a bit worse, especially if players do not buy items from vendors that cannot be obtained in any other way. This list covers the must-have items for sale at vendors across the world to give players a clear picture of what to spend theirhard-earned goldon when the opportunity arrives.
7Essential Tools
Merchant: Orlaith, Alwyn
The very first order of business in everyTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalonplaythrough is to get all the essential tools as soon as possible. These tools are a Pickaxe for mining, a Shovel for digging, a Woodcutting Axe for getting wood, a Sketchbook for sketching, and a Fishing rod for fishing.
While it’s possible, and even common, to find these tools out in the wild, it’s completely up to chance. The easier way is to purchase every tool that the player is missing the first time they visit the Horns of the South and complete the checklist easily. Orlaith, the female merchant next to the Fort’s entrance, sells them for dirt cheap.
6Alcohol
Merchant: Jann Peber, Alwyn
Alcohol is a key ingredient for most Potion recipes inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. Players who are remotely interested in crafting their own Health Potions, Mana Potions, and others will want to pick up every Wine, Moonshine, Ale, Mead, and other types of alcohol they come across. However, in many cases, it’s still not enough.
In order to bulk craft potions and not have to worry about running out in the middle of a tough dungeon or boss fight, players may want to look to merchants who sell alcohol. Typically, these tend to cost between 10-20 gold per bottle, which, in the grand scheme of things, isn’t a lot. The benefits clearly outweigh the costs.
5Relics
Merchant: O Cuinn Cinnamonsage, Bonxie
Weapon and armor relics inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalonadd special effects to the corresponding equipment type, allowing players to make their favorite piece of gear even stronger by adding custom effects that suit their playstyle.
While many relics can be obtained by killing rare monsters, defeating bosses, and completing quests, quite a few of them are only obtainable by purchasing them from the merchants who sell them. Players who can get the most out of these relics would be well-served by purchasing them from these merchants the very first opportunity they get. They cost a pretty penny, but more often than not, they’re worth it.
4Origin Potion
Merchant: Jann Peber
In order torespec skills and attributes inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, players will need to drink a special, unique potion called the Origin Potion. The Origin Potion is an incredibly rare item, with only 6 or 7 of them existing in a single Act.
Jann Peber, the resident doctor of the Horns of the South, sells an Origin Potion for 1500 gold, which, admittedly, is a hefty sum but one that is more than justifiable considering the effects. Once bought, the Origin Potion does not appear again in his inventory.
3Unique Weapons and Armor
Merchant: Osbryht, Osmond, Erwin, Filth
A huge problem for a lot of players inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalonis the lack of appropriate equipment for their chosen playstyle. All of the best weaponsand armor pieces in the game come with strict attribute requirements, and considering a warrior is just as likely to find mage equipment as he is to find warrior equipment while out exploring, players often find themselves without any high-level weapons and armor suitable for their characters.
Checking out merchant shops for appropriate gear is more than worth it in this situation, as it allows players to get their build online sooner. Do note, however, that this equipment is relatively expensive, and players will need a heavy purse to purchase a full set.
2Spells
Merchant: Jann Peber, Brother Riagan, Pravda, Brother Endrik
One of the biggest limiting factors to amage build inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalonis the lack of spells. Like almost everything else in the game, rare and powerful spells are mainly obtained through exploration, by opening every single chest players come across, entering every secret tunnel they find, and checking behind every rock that looks even remotely suspicious.
An easier way to obtain spells is by buying them from merchants in the world. Only a select few merchants sell spells in the game, however, and their prices aren’t cheap. Additionally, some of these spells are exclusive, like the ones sold by the Red Priests. Spellcasters would be remiss not to check out these merchants’ stock and see if anything catches their interest.
1Recipe Books
Merchant: All
One of the most important purchases to make at any merchant inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalonis recipe books. Most vendors in the game specialize in something. The Blacksmith Osbryht specializes in weapons and armor, the doctor, Jann Peber, specializes in potion making, and so on. Appropriately, these vendors always have recipe books for sale pertaining to what they’re good at. Osbryht will sell a recipe book that shows how to make high-level armor, weapons, and arrows, whereas Jann Peber will have a recipe book for multiple rare potions.
Buying these recipe books is always a good idea as players cannot learn how to make those items in any other way than by learning about them from the masters. A thousand wolf pelts will not be of any use if the player doesn’t have the corresponding recipe to understand how to turn it into leather. Considering their value, these recipe books are sold extremely cheaply, which means players can often afford them very early on.
