Rematchis a fast-paced arcadefootball (soccer) gamewhere just one player is controlled in short multiplayer matches that can be 3 v 3, 4 v 4, or 5 v 5. However, the gameplay can be difficult to get into at first, and players may feel useless and unable to help their team score.
The followingbeginner tips and tricks forRematchshould help players understand the mechanics, impact the ball, and hopefully win more games as they begin their career.
10Practice In Freeplay & Use The Tutorials
Rematch Has A High Skill Floor
While players are free to jump into games and learn on the fly, the skill floor is fairly high forRematch, with mechanics and controlsthat differ from similar games. For this reason, it is highly recommended that players complete all the tutorials, and after they are done, try out freeplay, which can be quickly entered from the main menu.
Here, players can take as many shots as they like, practice skills, and learn some of the more niche controls. In a real game, they won’t have the ball enough or enough time to learn any of this. Best of all is the ability to recall the ball, with the Right Stick/Middle Mouse Button, instead of having to run after it every time. This can even be used to practice volleys as the ball flies in.
9Set FOV As High As Possible
By Widening Your View, You Can See More Teammates & Opponents
FOV determines the default level of camera zoom. With a low FOV, the camera will be closer to the player, limiting the vision. However, awareness is key in a game likeRematch, with the player needing to see teammates to pass to, incoming balls from the side, or opponents closing in for tackles.
For these reasons, it’s recommended that players set their FOV as high as possible, giving them a vision advantage over others. Currently, the max FOV is 90.
8Set Your Camera Speed As High As You Can Handle
Turning Around On Goal Or For Passes Quickly Is Crucial
Unlike top-down games likeEA Sports FC, players cannot see everything at once inRematch, with the game being played in third-person. To see where the ball is, where teammates are, or to quickly find the goal and shoot, players will likely need to increase the speed of their camera.
Of course, setting it too high would be a detriment, so players should mess around with the settings in freeplay and try to go as high as they are comfortable. With a higher camera speed, players should constantly look around, with or without the ball.
7Swap Out Goalkeepers When Necessary
Rematch Is Designed For Fluid Positions
Players should try not to get in the mindset of one player being the assigned goalkeeper, as sometimes they may need to charge out of the box, and their gloves will be ripped off. Other defenders should therefore be ready to hop into goal, and if they enter the penalty box or are the only one remaining, they will become the keeper.
This fluidity is great and should be taken advantage of. As players may need to become the keeper at any of these times, and because different players start in goal after every kickoff, all players should at least learn the basics of goalkeeping inRematch. In lower player count modes such as 3 v 3, keepers should also play as sweeper keepers and advance outside their box when in possession.
6Pass The Ball!
You’ll Only Win By Passing
The best tip for beginners inRematchis simply to pass the ball. The game is designed for passing plays, and as tackling is fairly easy, players trying to dribble upfield on their own will fail.
Being too greedy and thinking they are the main character is the number one reason why beginners struggle early on inRematch. That being said, passing is not easy at first, as nothing locks on. For this reason, make sure to practice passing in the dedicated tutorials and in freeplay. Once passing clicks,Rematchwill click, and more fun will be had whilst winning more games.
5Call Out For The Ball & Listen To Teammates
Communication & Passing Is Key In Rematch
Aside from optional voice comms, which will naturally help with coordination at the risk of potential toxicity,Rematchthankfully has a simple yet effective communication system built in. By asking for the ball with the Right Stick/Middle Mouse Button, the player in position will hear audio cues, even if they can’t see their teammates.
There are even unique voice lines depending on the position of the player calling for a pass, meaning if they hear ‘down the line’ or ‘square it’, they know exactly where to pass. Of course, asking for the ball too much, especially when not in space, is a bad thing, so find the right balance. Additionally, make use of the preset chat options to say ‘sorry’ when you make an honest mistake, or ‘we got this’ after a teammate makes one, and youdon’t want them to lose morale.
4Don’t Overuse Slide Tackles
After Failing, You Can’t Get Up For A While
Slide tackles inRematchfeel incredibly satisfying and are perfect in many situations. However, if players miss their slide tackle, they will be useless on the floor for a few seconds and likely never catch up with the attacker.
For this reason, avoid using slide tackles too much, especially if they are unnecessary. Remember that standing tackles are also possible, simply by not holding sprint, and sometimes adopting a defensive stance may be enough. This is particularly true in modes like 3 v 3, where temporarily losing one player on the ground can be devastating.
3Use The Walls
Pass To Yourself Or Teammates Off The Walls
Unlike real football, there are walls inRematchwhich the ball can bounce off, and players should use these to their advantage. When trying to get past a defender, pass against the wall with some pace on it, and then use a burst of speed to run onto it.
The Walls can also be used to pass to teammates, and if players practice in freeplay, they will be able to pull off long lob balls against the walls to set up incredible volleys or plays. Don’t neglect the walls at the goal ends either.
Otherwise, An Attacker Will Slip Behind For Easy Goals
It’s very easy to fall into the trap of chasing the ball inRematch. After all, unlike real football, players won’t get physically tired, so aside from stamina, they cankeep running all game. However, if every defender is chasing after the ball, opponents will slip behind the defensive line or find space.
Instead, some defenders should mark attackers, leaving just one player to pressure the ball, and in 5 vs 5, where there are more players, one player should perhaps stay up front even when the team doesn’t have possession. By not constantly chasing the ball, the opposition will find fewer opportunities, and defenders can retain their stamina for when it counts. Being low on stamina slows down players.
1Aim Above The Net & Volley In The Rebound
The Keeper Will Dive For The First Shot, Leaving The Goal Open
If players want to score easy goals, at least against fellow beginners, they should make use of a certain play that became notoriousin the playtest. Instead of aiming directly for the goal, aim high so that the ball bounces off the wall behind the goal.
The hope is that the keeper dives. While the keeper is on the floor, players can then hammer home an easy volley. Of course, at higher levels, keepers will expect this and defenders will be ready to head the ball away, but against the unaware, this trick works like a treat.
