Back when delinquents were part of nearly every anime story, one particular delinquent stood out as one of the most iconic in the history of the medium. His name is Eikichi Onizuka, and he is the co-founder ofa notorious biker gang called the Oni-Baku.
Oni-Baku started out as a group of friends who simply love to hang around and roam the town with their bikes, but it doesn’t take long until more people join, and the group grows larger. Add to that Eikichi and Onizuka’s inherent aggression, and it’s no wonder they eventually become a feared biker gang that wouldn’t hesitate to use weapons like knives or baseball bats to crush their opponents. Considering most of them are older than the boys at Bofurin, it’s safe to say that the violent grown men at Oni-Baku would easily terrorize theWind Breakergang.
As one of the most influential anime in history,Akirahas a lot of iconic ideas and concepts going for it,such as the cyberpunk city, the psychic powers, and the futuristic bikes. Speaking of bikes, these ones belong to Kaneda’s biker gang: the Capsules.
Similar to Eikichi and the Oni-Baku, Kaneda started the Capsules as a means to have fun with his friends, but things quickly spiral out of control the moment they begin to consume an unhealthy amount of alcohol and drugs, leading them to become known for their dangerous antics and violent tendencies. The Bofurin gang may be full of strong fighters, but even they would be overwhelmed in the face of the drug-fueled carnage unleashed by The Capsules.
The 2024 anime,Bucchigiri?!, revolves aroundtwo childhood friends who were possessed by two fighter spiritsthat granted them incredible fighting skills and powers. While these two are part of street gangs, their rival gang, called the Siguma Squad, would likely pose the biggest threat to Bofurin.
The world ofBucchigiriis filled with quirky characters, but none of them are as funky as Marito Jin, the leader of the Siguma Squad. The contrast between his flamboyant look and his ruthless fighting style will shock all who have never fought him before. This is why fighting against Marito and his gang can be really challenging, even for great fighters from the Bofurin gang.
When it comes to modern-day delinquent street gangs, the most famous one has to be the Tokyo Manji Gang fromthe animeTokyo Revengers. They were the first to truly revive this dying concept, bringing it back into the limelight after years of being forgotten by mainstream audiences.
Unlike Bofurin, the Tokyo Manji Gang doesn’t revolve around any particular school. As their name suggests, they are the rulers of Tokyo, and they will obliterate any rival gangs who dare to mess around on their turf. At its height, the Tokyo Manji Gang had tons of loyal followers, each proving to be capable fighters. In their prime, they would easily run circles around the Bofurin boys.
Jacuzzi’s gang operates as saboteurs, thieves, and bounty hunters, presenting themselves as a proper gang of criminals. They don’t fight against other gangs to defend their turf or to be the protector of their hometown; they designate a target and do everything necessary to snatch it, even if it meansbreaking some bones and blowing things upin the process.
That’s why having a small team comprised of experts in their field is much more beneficial for them than amassing a large group of fighters. As for their leader, Jacuzzi Splot, he may be a crybaby, but he is the kind of man who will stop at nothing to save his comrades. Even if someone beat him to a pulp, he would still get back up and fight if it meant he could save his people. The youth of Bofurin wouldn’t stand a chance against this kind of expertise, ruthlessness, and determination.
Tohoshinki is quite similar to Bofurin in the sense that both groups revolve around a certain school. The difference lies in the structure of the organizations. Bofurin is a large gang made up of Furin High School’s strongest students. They have a clear sense of purpose, and every member fights together to achieve the same goal.
The Tohoshinki, on the other hand, comprises four different gangs within the same school. Each gang has its own leaders,collectively known as the Four Kings, and its own philosophy. The only reason they haven’t torn each other apart is because they’re roughly equal in strength. The result is a delicate balance of power that ironically contributes to the overall peaceful state of the school. Though it’s true they are greatly opposed, they won’t hesitate to band together to fight any gangs that dare to challenge their school. When the four Kings of Tohoshinki fight together, the carnage would be enough to shock even the Bofurin boys.
Dollars is easily the most unique street gang in the entire history of anime. The reason is simply due to how mysterious and secretive they are. The identities and the number of members, or any other kind of details for that matter, are completely unknown. Needless to say, nobody knows the identity of the leader and founder of Dollars, not even the members themselves. Every member communicates with each other through Dollars’ private forum and chat room. To join the group, one needs an invitation from an existing member. This makes it virtually impossible for rival gangs to get information on the group, let alone infiltrate it.
Some people think that there are only a handful of Dollars out there, while others estimate that nearly half of Tokyo has already become a member of the gang. From regular office workers and information brokers to a supernatural entities, Dollars exist all around, and it’s pretty much impossible to tell for those who aren’t members themselves. That’s what makes the Dollars so dangerous, and it’s also why it would be practically impossible for Bofurin (or any other adversary for that matter) to defeat them.
