Quite a few games had been teased prior to this, with one leak in particular raising a lot of eyebrows and a lot of people’s hopes. Unfortunately for some, there weren’t any new AAA games revealed, and thespeculation about aWarhammer 40,000 Total Wargamewill have to keep on chugging.
Rather, a handful of titles were revealed for the first time, including two classic remasters, and plenty more existing titles had new content announced or shown off. Indeed, there’s sure to be something on this list for fans ofWarhammerto enjoy from the Skulls showcase.
The New Games Announced at Warhammer Skulls
Fans ofWarhammer’s smaller-scale projects will probably be happy to see the TTRPGDark Heresybeing adapted into a game, as well as some of thebest-reviewedWarhammer 40,000gamesgetting sequels. Boomer shooter enjoyers have usually had great things to say aboutBoltgun, so it’s great to see the studio is able to follow up on it, letting players take control of the fiery Malum Caedo, while those who enjoy some more methodical turn-based tactical gameplay can look forward toMechanicus 2, the sequel to the beloved original.Supremacyrounds out the new releases as a mobile tactics game taking place on Vigilus, featuring Imperial Guard, Space Marines, Orks, and Chaos.
Two Classic Games Remastered for Warhammer Skulls
Two of Relic’s most popular and oldest games are being remastered.Dawn of War Definitive Editionincludes all the original game plus expansions in one package, and will feature improved textures, lighting, camera, draw distances, 4K support, and a new 64-bit modding framework, whileSpace Marine Master Crafted Editionalso receives updated textures, and a modernized UI. The improvements seem to be relatively minor in both cases, with the texture updates forSpace Marinerequiring a very keen eye to notice. The prices have not been confirmed, but strangely,Space Marine Master Crafted Editionis not coming to PlayStation, despite the original being available on PS3.
Speed Freeks Enters 1.0, Leaving Early Access
Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freekshas carried the combat racing game torchsince launching in early access last year. It’s finally in 1.0, with nine vehicles, 10 maps, and more features to see it through. It’s a pretty fun return to form for a small genre, and40Kfans should give it a go if they can.
All the Updates Announced for Existing Games as Warhammer Skulls
It’s quite the meaty list, with plenty ofWarhammer’s smaller titles getting some free updates and DLC to boot. A few of the notable ones areRogue Trader: Lex Imperialis, a new expansion with new characters and locations, made by the same studio that is bringing out the newDark Heresygame.TW: Warhammer’s Tides of Torment teaser will reveal more soon, whileVermintide’s last update for Verminous Dreams was announced, The Well of Dreams.Space Marine 2’s Horde Modewas finally revealed, titled Siege Mode, and it seems to be bringing staple bosses from Operations to the new wave-based mode.Darktideis also getting a new character, the Arbites Enforcer, spreading the Emperor’s mercy among heretics.
Two unexpected collaborations were also announced betweenWarhammerand some popular IPs. BothCounter-StrikeandRustwill be gettingWarhammer-themed content, which, in the case ofCS, is presumably skins, but as forRust, it’s hard to guess. Fans ofRustwill find out soon enough, however.
