Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destinybegins in Yagyu Village, home of our protagonist Jubei Yagyu. Despite its destruction by Nobunaga’s army of monsters, it’s well worth exploring the ruins as thoroughly as possible before acquiring your first Oni Weapon and leaving for the mining town Imasho. The video below shows off every collectible in the village, and this guide will also cover each one individually and note how they can be used elsewhere in the game.

Your first visit to Yagyu Village inOnimusha 2will automatically end once you interact with the Dragon Statue and claim the Oni Weapon “Buraito.” This lightning blade is incredible, but putting off picking it up in favor of exploring the village a bit more will get you quite the bounty of useful items. There’s a wealth of gift items hidden throughout Yagyu Village, which can be given to allies later on to influence their opinion of Jubei and change who will show up to help at crucial moments, and you can also find an item that permanently raises your health.

Yagyu Village Map

You can find the Yagyu Village Map soon after your first enemy encounter. As you follow the voice, you’ll reach a bridge with a red chest next to it, and the map is inside. You can access the map from the inventory or by pressing R3. Looking at the map will show you that you can head into the house past the broken gate back at the start, though Jubei will refuse to enter until you’ve investigated the voice, so you’ll need to handle that before you can look for items that way.

Herb

After arriving at the Pond and seeing the cave open, look to the left of where you entered to find a chest containing a herb. This will restore some of your health when consumed, which can be helpful in the more difficult fights.

Frog (Gift Item)

To get the Frog, you’ll need to progress through the area normally until you reach the pond with stepping stones leading to a Tori Gate (see above). A frog is hopping around on the ground here, which you can pick up by interacting with it.This gift item can be given to your allies to change their opinion of you, and you’ll get a variety of useful items in return.

Charity Orb & Play Instructions

These are both key items that you’ll be given after speaking with Takajo. The Charity Orb is one of the five orbs Jubei is tasked with collecting throughout the game, while the Play Instructions are an in-game manual providing information on several key mechanics. You can review the Play Instructions by using the item in your inventory, and they will automatically open when you first get them.

Herb 2

A second Herb can be found right after speaking to Takajo, by opening the chest in that room. As mentioned before, Herbs are healing items that will restore a decent chunk of your health when used, so stocking up whenever possible is very useful.

Abacus (Gift Item)

To get the Abacus, backtrack to the broken gate near the start of the area and interact with it.This will let you enter Jubei’s home.To get the Abacus, go straight ahead after entering the building and attack to break through a door, revealing a chest. The Abacus is another gift item, so you’re able to give it to your allies later on to influence their opinion of you and get rewards.

Kaleidoscope (Gift Item)

The Kaleidoscope is just down the hall from the Abacus, inside a chest just inside the first room you see. The Kaleidoscope is yet another gift item you’re able to give to your allies later on, influencing their opinion of you.

Artwork #10

Artwork #10 is sitting on a shelf in the next room, after the one where the Kaleidoscope chest is. Move up to the shelf and interact with it to grab the item, which is automatically added to the artwork book in your inventory so you’re able to view it at your leisure.

Four Guardians: Right

To find the first half of the Four Guardians picture, you’ll need to head down after collecting Artwork #10 and slice through the picture on the wall, revealing the item hidden in an alcove behind it. Once you have both halves, you’ll be able to view the picture in your inventory, but the other half is elsewhere in the village, so that won’t take long.

Fork (Gift Item)

To get this next item, you’ll need to head through the door shown in the first image above, then head down to find the chest behind a breakable barrel. Inside is the Fork, a gift item you can use to, you guessed it, influence the opinion of your allies and receive reward items from them.

Something for Later

Heading up and further into the building, you’ll find the room shown in the image above. A strange cabinet here requires an item to open, but you won’t be able to get that item until much later in the game,so you should ignore it during your first visit to Yagyu Village.

Wasabi (Gift Item)

To get the Wasabi, you’ll want to head outside from the room mentioned above, and go all the way across to the far side of the building exterior (image 2, above). You can interact with a spot between the two fences to find the Wasabi. This is another gift item you can share with your allies.

Four Guardians: Left

The second half of the picture from earlier can be found just inside the building, by entering through the opening near where you found the Wasabi. The picture is inside a red chest, and will complete the Four Guardians picture if you collected the right half earlier. Once completed, the picture can be viewed freely in the inventory.

Oolong Tea (Gift)

The Oolong Tea is in another red chest, found in the adjoining room to the one where the Four Guardians: Left was found. This is another gift item you can give to your allies, influencing their opinion of Jubei and getting you some useful items in exchange.

Power Jewel (Health Increase)

The Power Jewel is an item that will permanently increase your health when used, and you can find it at the end of the hallway where you first entered the building, inside a puzzle chest. To open this chest, you’ll need to slide the tiles to line up the image. You can do this by sliding the puzzle using the arrows in image 2, above, in the order we’ve labeled them.
