The Hunt for Gollumtells the storyof Aragorn as he tracks down Gollum after losing the One Ring to Bilbo Baggins. The movie takes place between the events ofThe Hobbitand theLord of the Ringstrilogy, filling in Aragorn’s journey before he meets Frodo and his fellow Hobbits at the Prancing Pony Inn. Serkis is the only confirmed cast member at the moment. However, Viggo Mortensen is expected to return as Aragorn despite no official confirmation, though his role would require de-aging VFX. Still, with the door open for other potential cast to return, anotherLord of the Ringsalum seems to want in on the action.
While speaking withMovieWeb,Lord of the Ringsstar Orlando Bloom discussed his possible return inThe Hunt for Gollum, with the actor stating, “If they asked me, I would say, ‘Absolutely!'“He admitted that it would require some de-aging technology to make him look younger, like Legolas was at the time, but professed his love for New Zealand, calling it “the place” to be. Check out Orlando Bloom’s full comments on his potential return inThe Hunt for Gollumbelow:
I think first of all, I’d like to see [Legolas] the same age as he was [in the original trilogy]. So, AI would have to come into play. I think I’d like to see him lithe and breezy and warrior-like so AI would have to come into play. And I think if they asked me, I would say, ‘Absolutely!’ It would be so fun just to go back to New Zealand and spend however long they want me there for. Because honestly, if you want to be anywhere in the world right now, New Zealand is the place.
The Hunt For GollumCould Also Be ALord Of The RingsCast Reunion
While not every character would be necessary for the storyThe Hunt for Gollumwants to tell, the potential for otherLord of the Ringsactors returning is there. If Mortensen ultimately returns as Aragorn, it could also spur other actors to join the project, and with Bloom’s clear interest, it could pave the way for many more. Bloom also returned for Peter Jackson’sHobbittrilogy, which makes his involvement seem more likely.
Ian McKellan could easily return as Gandalf, as the actor has also mentioned an interest in the project. Frodo and the Hobbits could even be worked into the story to help further connect it to Tolkien’s adapted movie universe. Lee Pace’s Thandruil could also see a return, as the plot is expected to involve his realm heavily. WhileThe Hunt for Gollumis still a ways off, with the release date currently eyeing Christmas 2027, the future could hold many exciting updates for theLord of the Ringsfilm.
